Cinderella and The lion and the mouse

             Folklore is a type of story that is pass from generation to generation. At first it was pass as an oral story but after the invention of the printing press, publishers were able to write them. Those stories made me a lot different or not than the real story because everyone tells the story in their own way. The stories are choose are “Cinderella” retold by Lindsay Mizer and illustrated by Jim Talbot which is a fairy tale and “The lion and the mouse” adapted by Teresa Mlwarer and illustrated by Olga Cuéllar which is a fable. 

            I personally like fairy tales because love, friendship, etc. always win and evil or envy always loose. I believe that we can read our students a fairy tale in order for them to learn the message that if they behave in the right way they are going to be compensated in a way. I will also read it since kids or children love them so it will be a good way to connect with them. I really love the pictures in the book because they are really colorful, the really connect with the story. I also like them because if you look at them they actually transport you to the world of Cinderella. 

For my second story I choose a fable. I believe that fables are great stories that teach us a message at the end. Fables will always use animals as they characters which seems interesting to me, since it makes us really that all living things in this world have to learn something new every day. I choose “The lion and the mouse”  fable because I believe it has a great message we can all learn from it. The message is that an act of kindness is never  wasted. First kindness was shown by the lion when we decided that we was not going to be eating the mouse. The second act was when the mouse free the lion from captivation. I believe that this will be a great folklore book to read to me kids because we could all learn to be kind with one another. The pictures in this fable really connected with the story, they are really colorful, and they could actually tell the story by just looking at them. 


In conclusion, I believe that a folklore is a great story we can read to our students because we can teach them as a message. We can also read the stories for fun. "Cinderella" which is a fairy tale and "The lion and the mouse" is a fable.

First Day Jitters and A Step from Heaven

Contemporary realistic fiction is a way of looking at stories that are based on reality, but their characters are fictionalized. Most of the time these books are talking about different types of problems society is going through. For example, immigration, physical abuse, emotional abuse, divorce parents, etc. The picture book that I choose are First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg and illustrated by Judy Love and the novel A Step from Heaven by An Na.    The picture book I choose is called First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg and illustrated by Judy Love. The main character in the story is a teacher called Sarah Jane Hartwell. The story is portrayed for us the readers to imagine that Sarah is a student and that she is scared about the first day of school, until the end readers can figure out that the story was talking about a teacher.
